You Don't Know Jack -- But You Will Soon

Usually I write about California and Las Vegas gambling on this site because I'm a Southern California resident and play in Southern California or Las Vegas when I have money to throw away. But before my husband and I moved to the Golden State, we were Midwesterners, so I still have family and love in my heart for the IN-IL-KY-OH-MI region of the world. There were not too many places to play in Southern Indiana when I called myself a Hoosier, and the casinos were a long time coming to that state, but eventually Caesars and the Horseshoe Casinos were given a license to take our money closer to home. No need to fly to Vegas anymore to lose our entertainment dollars at slots and table games.  Well, Horseshoe Casino is soon to be a thing of the past as the Caesar's property rebrands itself as Jack Entertainment.  Here's an article I came across today from CDC gaming and the Cincinnati Enquirer where you can read all about it...if you think you might ever visit that part of the country and be looking for somewhere to play.

" UPDATE: Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati will close for 40 hours starting June 6 to transfer operations from Caesars Entertainment to owner Jack Entertainment and to rebrand under the new name Jack Cincinnati Casino pending regulatory approval.

During this time, the casino’s parking structure will be closed to the public. However, credentialed Hamilton County employees who have a parking pass will be permitted to use their reserved spaces in the garage.

The downtown casino will close at 11:59 p.m. on June 6. The casino is scheduled to reopen as Jack Cincinnati Casino at 4 p.m. on June 8, pending regulatory approval.
The garage will also reopen to the public on June 8.
The name change is elaborate because everything inside and out with the "Horseshoe" name or logo on it has to go.
External and internal signage must be changed as well as every felt on the gambling tables, all the slot machines, every pair of dice and every deck of cards. Slots, dice and cards must be inspected before they are put in play to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
PREVIOUS STORY: The "Jack" casino name crept onto Cincinnati's skyline on Thursday as workers erected Horseshoe's new moniker.
Starting in the morning, workers began affixing J-A-C-K to the Downtown casino's 80-foot marquee visible from Interstate 71. The name change is part of the former Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati's rebranding as Detroit mogul Dan Gilbert moved into active management of his budding gambling empire. His gambling arm, Rock Gaming, changed its name to Jack Entertainment earlier this year.
Jack Entertainment previously said the Horseshoe transition in Cincinnati would happen in June. All in, the company is spending $40 million to rebrand ThistleDown Racino and Horseshoe Cleveland as well as Greektown Casino in Detroit.
Jack Entertainment's other properties have already changed their name in Ohio. Gilbert, who also owns Quicken Loans and the Cleveland Cavaliers, bought out former operating partner Caesars Entertainment in 2015 and decided to assume day-to-day operations of its gambling properties."
So, next time you're in Cincinnati, don't look for any lucky Horseshoes. You won't find 'em.  But maybe Jack Entertainment will be lucky for you. Or maybe not ... since it is costing $40 million to rebrand the Cincinnati - Cleveland - Detroit casinos and Jack will need to take a little more off the top when we play to pay for all those name changes.  LOL

Free Parking in Vegas a Thing of the Past Next Month

The days of free parking on the Las Vegas Strip are rapidly becoming a thing of the past. I guess if we fly into Vegas, we won't notice the change -- but many of us from neighboring states like California make the drive instead, and we now have one more thing to gripe about along with the Resort Fees we have reluctantly been paying for the chance to give the    Strip casinos a bigger share of our entertainment dollar. The information below is copied from the Associated Press release that came out this week with the "good" news. There's nothing I can add except to say that maybe it's time to check out the Cosmopolitan or South Pointe since I don't see either mentioned in the article.
LAS VEGAS (AP) – Drivers were given a long list of rules this past Thursday involving MGM Resorts International’s game-changing move to charge for parking on the Las Vegas Strip.
Sin City’s largest hotel-casino operator has said the changes will go into effect beginning on June 6 at some properties, with all of its facilities falling in line by June 13.
The per-day fee for self-parking will be $8 and valet parking will be $13 a day at Monte Carlo, Luxor and Excalibur. Circus Circus valet will also charge $13 a day while self-parking will remain free.
MGM’s higher-end properties, including the Bellagio, Aria, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Mirage and New York-New York, will charge $10 for self-parking and $18 for valet parking per day. The Vdara and Delano, which do not offer self-park, also will charge the higher rate for valet.
The fees being implemented shake up a long-held entitlement on the Strip. MGM said it’s using the money to make upgrades to its parking structures and build a 3,000-space parking garage that will open next year on the Excalibur property.
“It’s just going to become the new normal and there’s still going to be a lot of people upset about this but these are changes that reflect the current reality here,” MGM spokesman Gordon Absher said.
The first hour of self-parking will be free to accommodate brief errands such as ticket purchases or pick-ups. Those parking for less than four hours will get a discounted rate.
Drivers will have to stop at a pay kiosk with a long list of payment options.
“If you look at the whole of it, it does seem confusing because there are a lot of options,” Absher said. “But if you start to narrow it down…it’s much more manageable.”
Hotel guests can use their room key, with the charges billed to their room.
Nevadans will get a break through Dec. 29 with free-self parking for up to 24 hours. To get the benefit, drivers will have to scan their driver’s license at the gate.
Absher said the company only scans the driver’s license barcode to ensure it’s valid and does not access any personal information.
Absher said the kiosk system has been tested with MGM’s T-Mobile Arena event parking process since April.
There will be a call center available for anyone who has issues with the system or their hotel key card, reward card, driver’s license or parking ticket.

MOTHER

A Mother’s Love
Anon
Of all the special joys in life,
The big ones and the small,
A mother’s love and tenderness
Is the greatest of them all.

A Very Happy Mother's Day to those of you who have been
blessed with children to love.

A Day of Precious Memories for those of you
whose mothers have passed on.

God made a wonderful mother,
A mother who never grows old;
He made her smile of the sunshine,
And He moulded her heart of pure gold;
In her eyes He placed bright shining stars,
In her cheeks fair roses you see;
God made a wonderful mother,
And He gave that dear mother to me.
